Rapidly advancing technology has allowed us to significantly expand our knowledge of space and the universe in just a few years. We've managed to master even the smallest details about some celestial bodies that we previously observed in complete obscurity. However, we haven't yet fully unraveled the mystery of the seas and oceans that lie right next to us, covering most of the planet we live on. We know next to nothing about what goes on in the terrifying depths of these vast bodies of water and what creatures inhabit these almost inaccessible places. However, we shouldn't be overly pessimistic about this matter, because recent research is shedding light on these dark waters. So, what are the most interesting creatures inhabiting the sea?
1. Jellyfish

This strange creature, which tops the list of the most interesting sea creatures, is quite unlike any jellyfish you've ever seen. We're talking about jellyfish that live in deep waters. The photo above shows a jellyfish near the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point on Earth, in 2016. This creature, which looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie, is said to be a hydromedusa, a member of the genus Crossota.
2. Siphonophore

The seas are truly fascinating habitats. In fact, these mysterious waters are home to creatures called siphonophores, which form when many small sea creatures join together to form a single body.
3. Dumbo the Octopus

This strange creature, also called Grimpoteuthis, belongs to the umbrella octopus genus and lives at depths of 3,000 to 4,000 meters.
4. Sea cucumber

The depths of the oceans and seas are places that are very difficult for humans to reach. That's why it's difficult to dispel the cloud of mystery surrounding these dark lands. However, some of the images we've managed to capture so far can give us an idea of what we're about to encounter. Like this photograph of the sea cucumber Enypniastes, which shows what a strange place the ocean floor can be.
5. Lobular scalloped

The scallop, also known as the sea scallop, is fifth on our list of the most interesting sea creatures. Scientists don't know exactly what this creature is. However, the scallop is considered one of the creatures with the longest history on our planet.
6. Polyps

Experts claim that polyps are related to jellyfish. But their appearance is much more interesting. They resemble some kind of vase. The feeding habits of these strange crevices are also unusual. After anchoring themselves to a rock, they try to catch floating food with their tentacled mouths.
7. Woodlice

Sea mosquitoes, closely related to woodlice, deserve a place on the list of interesting sea creatures thanks to several unusual characteristics. Sea stingers, which can grow to the size of an adult's foot, can go an entire year without hunting or eating after a single feeding.
8. Sea spider

It's safe to say that land-dwelling spiders are quite fascinating creatures. Now imagine the versions of these creatures that live just a few meters below the surface of the sea! This sea spider, which belongs to the Colosseidae family, was photographed at a depth of approximately 1,500 meters in Johnston Atoll.
9. Brisingida starfish

The Brisinghida starfish is one of the most interesting-looking sea creatures. This strange creature has multiple arms (6 to 16) for feeding. Furthermore, the Brisinghida starfish can live at depths of up to 2,000 meters.
10. Glass sponge

The skeleton of the glass sponge, which ranks near the bottom of the list of the most interesting sea creatures, is made of silicon, which is also used in glass production.
