The most expensive men's suits in the world

• •

An impeccably tailored suit is part of the image of an elegant, confident man. The richest and most famous have their suits tailored by world-renowned designers, willing to shell out tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars for the garment. After all, like it or not, people will always "judge a book by its cover.".

The most expensive suits in the world that we will talk about cost more than most cars, and even more than some apartments.

10. Ermenegildo Zegna – from $22 to 28 thousand

p2ex4xg4A bespoke men's suit from the Italian fashion house is crafted from over 700 fabrics, yet is durable and lightweight. The process of creating a suit takes an average of 75 hours. Each suit requires four tailoring sessions, and the client doesn't fly to the tailors, but they fly to the tailor.

9. World Wood Record Challenge winning suit - $28 thousand

3alhzyqnThe concept of this suit is interesting – it changes every year and is the result of a competition organised by popular Italian cashmere producers – the family-run company Loro Piano.

In 2012, the winner of the competition was an Australian female designer named Suzanne Triplett.

Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piano loved the suit's fabric and design. They made fifty of them and sold them under the Loro Piana brand for $28,000 each.

8. Brioni Vanquish II – $43 thousand

iic4attqThere's a curious reason why the Brioni name is so prevalent not only in the fashion world but also in film. Its name is James Bond. Agent 007 has been sporting suits from the famous brand in his films since 1995.

The Vanquish II suit is crafted from the finest and rarest fabrics—quiviut, vicuña, and pashmina. To top it all off, white gold thread was added to the suit's embroidery. Only one hundred Brioni Vanquish IIs are ever made.

This isn't the only expensive suit from this brand. Most of them are custom-made for very wealthy clients.

7. Desmond Merrion Supreme — $47.5 thousand

z2c0dgeeThis suit was handcrafted by Desmond Merrion himself, one of London's finest tailors. Merrion doesn't use a sewing machine when creating his masterpieces, which partly explains the high price of his suits.

6. Kiton K50 – $60 thousand

j2bnu1liOnly five tailors at Kiton are capable of crafting this ultra-expensive merino wool suit. It takes 50 hours to complete, and 50 suits are produced annually. This beautiful garment was designed by renowned Italian tailor Enzo D'Orsi.

5. William Westmancott Ultimate Bespoke – $75 thousand

s5wxbmryThis luxurious suit can take between 150 and 200 hours to produce. Designer William Westmancott, who created the suit, claims this luxury men's wardrobe item is of interest to both wealthy and Middle Eastern businessmen.

To ensure the suit retains its shape over time, horsehair is used instead of thread. You'll also receive five free shirts with your purchase.

4. Zoot Suit – $78 thousand

qa5ofnq3Compared to the elegant pieces on the list of the most expensive men's clothing in the world, this vintage striped outfit from World War II looks comical.

However, its current price is no joke. The Zoot Suit sold for $78,000 at Augusta Auctions in 2011. The buyer remains unknown.

The buyer, who wished to remain anonymous, was paying not for the appearance, but for the amazing story associated with this wardrobe item.

With its oversized shoulder pads, flared lapels, and peg-leg trousers, the zoot suit evolved from suits popular in Harlem dance halls in the mid-1930s. By the 1940s, similar suits were being worn by minorities in working-class neighborhoods across the country. Although worn by celebrities like Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong, the zoot suit "was neither a suit nor a uniform from the entertainment world," as Chicago big-band trumpeter and manufacturer Harold Fox once said. It came to the fashion world straight from the streets and the ghetto.

In reality, such suits didn't belong to any particular brand. There was no designer associated with the zoot suit's appearance, and no department store where one could buy one. These were special outfits, ordinary suits bought two sizes too big and then creatively tailored to create a dandy effect.

By the 1950s, the fashion for such suits had faded, and most of them were simply repurposed into other garments.

3. Dormeuil Vanquish II — $95.3 thousand

l5lqpnh3At the opening of its representative office in India, the British supplier of the world's finest and most expensive fabrics presented Vanquish II fabric, created from six types of ultra-premium fabrics:

  1. Vanquish II;
  2. Royal Qivuik;
  3. Kirgzy White;
  4. Ambassador;
  5. Dorsilk;
  6. and Fifteen Point Eight.

The fabric, which combines smoothness, durability, and softness, was used to create a suit costing over $95,000. Its design was developed by the company's CEO himself.

2. Alexander Amosu Vanquish II - $101.8 thousand

ennz1lqbThis bespoke suit is one of the few fashion items in the world with a six-figure price tag. It was made for an anonymous buyer.

The suit's astronomical price is justified by its fabric, crafted from pashmina (the wool of Kashmiri mountain goats), rare musk ox, and vicuña, as well as nine 18-karat gold and diamond buttons. Its creation required over 80 hours of work and 5,000 stitches.

Unlike others on this list, Alexander Amosu isn't a tailor. He's simply a skilled designer of very expensive items and a successful entrepreneur. He's the Elon Musk of luxury enthusiasts.

1. Stuart Hughes Diamond Edition - $892.5 thousand

h5b4nxiqStuart Hughes is a household name among luxury connoisseurs. This designer can transform anything from the world's most expensive phones to a yacht or a piece of clothing into a unique jewel.

The world's most expensive men's suit, crafted by Hughes in collaboration with Richard Jewels, is composed of the finest cashmere, wool, and silk. The jewel features 480 diamonds totaling 240 carats.

Its creation required 600 hours of work by the finest tailors and jewelers. There are only three similar suits in the world.

It's essentially the perfect fashion jewelry outfit. And while walking around with all those diamonds might be life-threatening, it'll definitely make you feel like you're worth about $1 million.
